Emma Cross is a member of the Class of 2026, majoring in Government and Psychology with a minor in Gender Studies. Her academic work, combined with hands-on leadership experience, has deepened her commitment to feminist political theory and its relevance to contemporary global politics. This fellowship opportunity will serve as the foundation for her Honors Thesis in Political Science, where her analysis of nationalism will extend to its political manifestations in the United States.
Nicole is graduating with the class of 2025, majoring in Political Science and English. She is minoring in Gender & Sexuality studies, which constitutes the primary frameworks she employs in her academic writing and thinking. She is interested in using critical theory to understand how power shapes normative ways of thinking and knowing, literature, and politics.
Lily Welch, St. Lawrence University class of 2026, is a sociology major and education, gender and sexuality studies and African studies minor from Thetford, Vermont. On campus, she is a member of Campus Kitchens and Letters of Love, both of which she really enjoys! In the spring of 2024, she studied abroad in Kenya where she explored their country, interacted with locals, and much more. During her time in Kenya, she interned at community based organization, which is a survivor led human rights organization that has three shelters for survivors of sexual exploitation and abuse.
Chantel McCarthy '25 is a Psychology Major and a Gender and Sexuality Studies/Sociology Minor. She is passionate about the intersection between individual and structural barriers that human beings face in society. This passion has led her to various academic opportunities such as a Research Assistantship where she helped with Dr. Megan Carpenter's Ovulation Study and a Summer Internship where she shadowed a Licensed Master of Social Work at a local Substance Use Disorder Rehabilitation Center.
Katie Stannard, class of 2025, is Psychology major and Gender and Sexuality Studies minor St. Lawrence University. She has an interest in motivational research and mental health care. Katie works as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) on SLU EMS, is an avid member of the frisbee team, and has conducted independent research with the Psychology Department. She continued pursuing her passion for research this summer working in a five-person lab, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, investigating the success of two exercise prescriptions on inactive breast cancer patients.
Aoife Currie '25 is an Anthropology major, and a Gender & Sexuality Studies Minor, specializing in the burgeoning field of Digital Anthropology. She has been involved in activism & social justice most of her adult life, and plans on bringing that experience and tenets to her work in the field of Academia.
Navya Aggarwal, class of 2026 is majoring in Economics and Business and minoring in Gender Studies and European Studies. She has a strong passion for entreprenuership and social work. Her academic journey has revolved around exploring how the strategic application of marketing principles and HR practices can drive positive change. Navya envisions pursuing a career at the crossroads of corporate social responsibility and brand strategy, leveraging her skills to create meaningful connections between organizations and social causes.
Maryam (Sofia) Zareizadeh is originally from Fasa, Iran, and completed her International Baccalaureate at Li Po Chun United World College in Hong Kong. She is a member of the Class of 2026 at St. Lawrence University, where she is pursuing a double major in Biomedical Sciences and Performance & Communication Arts with a minor in Gender Studies. A Davis United World College Scholar, she serves as President of the Thelomathesian Society student government, Assistant Director of SLU EMS, and Community Assistant in Residence Life.
Nach Insaurralde is an Argentinian student at St. Lawrence University currently majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Gender and Sexuality Studies.
I am a current Senior at St. Lawrence. I have always had a strong love for learning and academia, and utilize opportunities like my most recent projects to learn as much as possible about a topic that relates to my studies and what I hope to do in the future. I work in the Language Resource Center, as a French and Arabic Language TA, and as an Admissions Ambassador, and I love what I do!
Hannah Rutkowski '22 is a writer and editor who majored in English and minored in film studies and gender studies during her time at St. Lawrence. An avid book lover, she is interested in pursuing the publishing industry, and is exploring what parts of the industry she might fit into through internships with St. Lawrence Magazine, The Adirondack Review, and soon Slag Glass City. Rutkowski will be attending Depaul University this fall for an MFA in Writing and Publishing where she'll be working with Slag Glass City and taking in all that Chicago has to offer.
Skylar recently graduated from St. Lawrence University in May of 2022. She majored in Global Studies and Spanish and minored in Gender and Sexuality Studies, and completed an Honors SYE project this past spring in order to fulfill the requirements of the Global Studies major. She studied abroad in Madrid on the Spain program in the Fall of 2021, and drew from my research and experiences there while writing my Honors thesis. Skylar feels very fortunate to have been awarded a CIIS travel grant for a rock climbing trip in Catalonia, Spain at the conclusion of her semester abroad.
I am a senior at St. Lawrence majoring in biology and minoring in gender and sexuality studies. I am in the process of applying to graduate programs with the ultimate goal of obtaining a doctorate of nursing. I want to focus my research and clinical practice on women's health and LGBTQ+ health.
Chloe McConnell, class of '17, has majored in English and minored in Gender and Sexuality Studies. This academic interest is what sparked the idea for her project, Gender and Fiction. Her project saught to combine her two focuses into one cohesive body of creative work which analyzed issues of gender and sexuality through fiction. She plans to continue her writing in an Honor's Project of the same theme. After college, her goal is to continue writing on these issues in graduate school.
