Mathematics

Aaryesha is currently pursuing a major in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics as a part of the 3+2 engineering program. She previously worked as an intern on campus for the research & instructions department of ODY Library and served as the President of Asia Club. She has cultivated a diverse set of interests within the technical field ranging from software engineering, artificial intelligence and data science. She envisions herself contributing to an organization that values innovation, collaboration, and community impact.

Bailey Smith ’27 is a Finance major with a Math minor interested in how economics connects with politics and public policy. She interned with the American Legislative Exchange Council, where she worked on policy research and analysis. Through her internship, Bailey has researched central banking, global investment, and how financial systems influence government decisions. These experiences have shaped her interest in the link between markets and policy. She plans to pursue a career in government, finance, or policy analysis.

Allison (she/her) is a senior in the Geology department. Her project focuses on the applications of linear algebra in geology. Within the geology community, there is an intimidation that surrounds mathematics. Allison's goal is to encourage future geology students at St. Lawrence University to take additional mathematic classes, as she feels her Math minor set her up for success in her research endeavors in geology. 

My name is Anja and I am pursing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics at St. Lawrence University. Previously, I studied at UWC Adriatic in Italy.

My name is Eunjin Han, and I’m from Seoul, South Korea. I speak Korean, as my first language, and English. 

My motivation for studying multi-language comes from my view of Language. It is my tool for sharing my thoughts and feelings across different cultures. Thus, learning a foreign language means learning a new culture, belief, and life. I hope to expand my experiences by communicating with various people through different languages.

I am a Computer Science Major and part of the Class of 2024. I started at SLU as pre-med however explored many different options and discovered my interest in Computer Science. This semester I am enrolled in web programming which is the sector of Computer Science I would like to pursue. I am looking forward to be able to freelance websites after graduation.

Rae Dunbar started her Masters of Science in Climate Change at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark in the fall of 2023. With a passion for climate adaptation, urban development, and visionary thinking, Rae has the lifelong goal of being a prominent force in combating climate change.  Rae was an active member of Thelmo-Student Government, chairing the Environmental Affairs Committee.

Indie Talbot (She/Her) is a senior graduating in the Spring of 2024. She is a geology major and is minoring in mathematics. After graduating, Indie plans on pursuing a master's in geology focused on volcanology or igneous petrology. She is passionate about volcanic processes and assessing the risks and hazards that are a result. During her time at St. Lawrence, she was SLU Fellow researching magmas under oceanic islands and also completed an internship in the Canary Islands focusing on volcanology and science communication.

Hope Donoghue is from River Forest, IL and is a member of the Class of 2024 at St. Lawrence University. She is majoring in data science and minoring in mathematics. In the summer of 2022, Donoghue conducted research with Dr. Ivan Ramler on network analysis. She investigated through statistical models what connections or aspects of teammate interactions lead to higher winning percentages for Liberty League soccer teams. On campus, Donoghue is a member of the women's soccer team and also a mentor at the Peterson quantitative resource center.

Colleen McKernan '23 is a history major and mathematics minor. She is interested in the history of those who have been overlooked in the past and is especially passionate about women's rights and history. Taking part in the Rural Feminisms Project created the opportunity to not only engage in local history but also to share with others the accomplishments of such women, combining her interest in history with the desire to spread and highlight the notable past.

Karina Bellavia '22 is a biology major with an interest in entomology. During her summer research, she studied the behavior of the robber fly species Lasiopogon currani at Glenmeal State Forest, NY. Karina is continuing her research as an Honors thesis throughout her senior year. She also plans to attend graduate school and pursue a PhD in Ecology after graduation. In her free time, she enjoys road cycling, hiking, baking, and looking at insects in the wild.

Haille Perkins '22 majors in Physics and Computer Science and is particularly interested in Computational Astrophysics. This interest led her to the research that she conducted with Dr. Aileen O'Donoghue in the summer of 2020 and 2021. A highlight of working with Dr. O'Donoghue was a trip to the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico where Haille learned more about the process used to observe radio emissions from galaxies. During this time, she was able to explore the types of work that occurs in the radio division of astronomy and hopes to experience other areas in the future.

Beinan Yang is a current biochemistry major at SLU (Class 2021). He is interested by topics related to molecular biology, biochemistry and organic synthesis. He plans to go the graduate school for future education in biochemistry. The summer project is a great experience and a good foundation for his future research and study in graduate school.

Leo Romanetz is a chemistry major from the class of '21. He is particularly interested in the field of physical chemistry where he plans to use his research experience at SLU as a starting point for future graduate study in the field. He plans to continue his project of the physical chemistry of intercalating chemotherapy drugs while at SLU during his senior year experience. Ultimately, he hopes that by the end of the project he may acquire the kinetic characteristics of the drug proflavin, in particular.

Allison Krauss is a part of the class of 2021. As a senior majoring in biochemistry and with minors in educational studies and mathematics, she hopes to use this project as a stepping stone to getting her masters in Adolescent Education with a chemistry focus, so she can teach high school chemistry. This project has helped introduce her to the process of making educational videos that have become very popular due to recent events.
