Lilia Estrada is a rising senior, double majoring in Creative Writing and Digital Media and Film. Her stories often feature women and cover issues they face, whether that be in a futuristic cyberpunk metropolis, or in modern day New York City. Her passions in advocating for women are reflected in her works, as she hopes her stories can shed light during the current administration’s mission in keeping women in the dark. I am Chris Hwang from Reno, Nevada. I enjoy taking photos, watching films, and sharing things that bring joy and curiosity. My goal in life is to become an educator to foster curiosity and critical thought within my fellow up and coming peers.
Aidan Begel is a rising senior in the Class of 2027. As a digital media and film major (and as someone who enjoys film), this project's ties to animation and cinema were deeply intriguing for them. The structure of this project as semi-independent has been a valuable experience that will stay with them following its completion. This writing and research has made them feel confident about future endeavors as well as encouraging a pursuit of additional writing/research projects.
Dylan Crockford '27 is a double major in Philosophy and English (Creative Writing) whose research interests center on ethics and moral philosophy, particularly how formal frameworks can be tested against, and refined by, ordinary moral intuition. His summer research project, completed under the guidance of Dr. Richard Lauer, reconstructs the concept of evil by examining and revising Claudia Card's Atrocity Paradigm.
Ryley Spilman '27 is a creative writing and environmental studies double major from Fulton, New York. She is interested in the exploration of environmental themes in literature and integrating these themes in her own fictional work. She is passionate about long-form fiction, particularly in the genre of magical realism but also enjoys non-fiction and lyric essay writing. In her free time she enjoys reading, cooking, spending time outdoors, and yoga.
Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Mariam Dodd has been spinning stories before she could even speak. A passionate believer that the fairytales we were raised with shape the world around us, Mariam has dedicated her writing career to analyzing how folklore forms the backbone of the cultures around us, from the marble temples of Ancient Greece to the coal-stained aftermath of modern Appalachia. While the subject and style of her work remains eclectic, what often unifies it is a blend of sarcasm and humor.
Sylvie Skrzypinski is a member of the St. Lawrence University Class of 2026. Her major is in English/Creative Writing. She plans to go on to graduate school in English and would like to become a professor and author. The novel that Sylvie is producing for her SLU Fellowship, Song of the White Dove, is her first. She plans to send it out into the world and, hopefully, see it published after it is complete.
Nabila is the first Indonesian undergraduate student at St. Lawrence University, double majoring in English and Global Studies. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Indonesia, she proudly carries her Indonesian heritage and unique cross-cultural identity. Nabila spent six transformative years living and studying at a pesantren (Islamic boarding school), an experience that shaped her deep appreciation for education, resilience, and community.
Moises Peralta '26 was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, before moving to and subsequently growing up in the South Bronx, NY. Majoring in creative writing with a minor in computer science, Moises has fostered a deep appreciation for all things storytelling. While interested in film, literature, and art, Moises has always been most captivated by how stories are told digitally through the realm of video games. And It's precisely that which Moises has based his research project on.
Kathryn 'Kate' Pogue is in the class of 2026 at St. Lawrence University. She is double majoring in chemistry and English with a focus in creative writing. During her 2024 summer internship with Dr. Tartakoff, Kate discovered an passion in organic synthesis, especially surrounding pharmaceutical research and development. She hopes to continue her chemotherapeutic research into her junior and senior years at St. Lawrence, making it part of her Senior Year Experience. Following her graduation from St. Lawrence, Kate plans on completing a PhD in Organic Chemistry.
