Hope Ninmann

Hope Ninmann '26 majored in Philosophy and minored in Arabic and Education at St. Lawrence University. Identifying as a first-generation low-income (FGLI) student, she became passionate about the FGLI students’ experience. Thus, Hope completed two research projects centered around FGLI students and their experiences. Between her personal experience, and learning about larger inequitable systems, Hope aims to eventually create change that mitigates the harm that has been done to minoritized groups.

Charlie White

Charlie White '28 is from Fort Worth, Texas. Majoring in Philosophy and Political Science, he is interested in the philosophical justification for prominent political theories and ideologies. Charlie conducted a research fellowship with Dr. Richard Lauer examining the critiques of John Rawls's liberalism, ultimately writing about the charges of moral relativism levied against a prominent critic, Alasdair MacIntyre. With this experience, Charlie hopes to pursue and SYE honors thesis for his philosophy major and later attend law school.

Dylan Crockford

Dylan Crockford '27 is a double major in Philosophy and English (Creative Writing) whose research interests center on ethics and moral philosophy, particularly how formal frameworks can be tested against, and refined by, ordinary moral intuition. His summer research project, completed under the guidance of Dr. Richard Lauer, reconstructs the concept of evil by examining and revising Claudia Card's Atrocity Paradigm.

Sha'Neise Frazier '27

Sha'Neise is majoring in political science and philosophy and has a strong interest in social justice and political theory. She frequently reads books and ingests media that discuss intersectionality, poverty, and other systems of oppression. This is part of the reason why she chose to research affordable housing and its intersectional disparities.  

Max Rapoport

Max Rapoport '26 grew up in Bedford Hills, NY, and is double majoring in philosophy and psychology. From a young age Max has been concerned with the world around them, and has always felt a need to learn more about the world. Max has always been interested in ethical questions from a non-traditional approach, which has led them to take an interest in care ethics, which their research project was based on.

Abby Barton

Abby Barton is a member of the class of 2026 and is majoring in English and philosophy. Her interest in classical literature began after taking courses in Greek and Roman mythology through the English department. In addition, Abby began studying Latin in the summer of 2023 with professor of English, Dr. Ann Hubert. This project enabled her to combine the study of classical literature with the study of classical language.

Caroline Mower

Caroline Mower is a rising junior from Lake Forest, Illinois double majoring in philosophy and economics. She is heavily involved on campus as a member of the Golf team, Kappa Delta Sigma and Letters of Love Club. She plans on continuing to advance her studies and research skills by executing an independent study on modal logic her junior year and a research project on the effectiveness of economic models her senior year. Post-grad, she hopes to attend law school. 

Yuchang (Alice) Zhang

张彧畅 (Alice Zhang) is an international undergraduate student at St. Lawrence University double majoring in Psychology and Philosophy. Witnessing people continually suffer from mental health problems without proper help motivated her to become a future clinical therapist. Her passion for philosophy has led her to a unique pathway wanting to help individual souls through the thinking tools and thought-provoking contents of applied philosophy.

Frank Wotton

Frankie is part of the class of 2022 at SLU and majored in philosophy and mathematics. He has research interests in phenomenology, philosophy of mind, and cognitive science. In particular, he is interested in sense-making, especially from the perspective of embodied cognition.

Ngoc Tan

Ngoc Tan ‘23 grew up in Vietnam and graduated from the International School Ho Chi Minh City. At St. Lawrence, Ngoc is a double Philosophy and Psychology major. She is currently a teaching assistant for Reasoning, a student worker at IT Help Desk, and has worked as a Peer Tutor since her sophomore year. After graduation, Ngoc plans to enroll in a Master’s degree in Education.

Edward Hallahan

Edward "Ned" Hallahan is in the class of 2021. He's a philosophy major who is hoping to go to pursue a P.H.D in philosophy. At SLU he's done the Adirondack Semester and studied abroad in Kenya. He's done another research project collecting oral histories of Adirondack artists. He's also worked for North Country Public Radio. Ned is interested in environmental ethics. On-campus, he lives in the Arts Annex, is the treasurer of woodcarving club, and is part of Divest SLU.

Michael Gagliardi

Michael Gagliardi, '21, is a double major in Philosophy and History at St. Lawrence University. In particular, he studies environmental philosophy and focuses on ethical ways of dealing with climate change. As a result, he plans on attending graduate school for philosophy. There, he hopes to continue his work on the nascent threat of "green" authoritarianism and defending democracy as its antidote. His other interests include reading, writing, cooking, and, of course, spending time with friends.
