Hola! I'm Sofia Macero Piñango. I'm from Venezuela, specifically from a little town called Los Teques. I am a really serious, and according to some, mean person, who at the same time happens to be a funny and happy tiny Venezuelan. My music, food, and traditions are a part of me that I learned to embrace after studying at UWC Mostar, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, for two years. There, I learned what the real meaning of being Latino was and the power our entire culture holds. Before learning this, my parents had always tried to keep me away from these ideas. They used to push me to become an international citizen who would completely disconnect from her home country. However, after being far from home, in a place where I was constantly asked about my own culture and the secrets it hides, I finally understood that one can be a global citizen while at the same time embracing one's roots.
I learned to be proud of saying that I am Latina, a word that describes a rich culture that once known, becomes the impossible love of many.

¡Hola! Soy Sofía Macero Piñango y vengo de Venezuela, específicamente de un pueblito llamado Los Teques. Soy una persona muy seria, y según algunos, amargada, que a la vez resulta ser una venezolana chiquita, divertida y alegre. Mi música, comida y tradiciones son una parte de mí que aprendí a abrazar después de estudiar en UWC Mostar, en Bosnia y Herzegovina, durante dos años. Allí aprendí cuál era el verdadero significado de ser latino y el poder que toda nuestra cultura representa. Antes de esto, mis padres siempre habían tratado de alejarme de estas ideas. Solían empujarme a convertirme en una ciudadana internacional que se desconectara por completo de su país de origen. Sin embargo, después de estar lejos de casa, en un lugar donde constantemente me preguntaban sobre mi propia cultura y los secretos que esconde, finalmente entendí que uno puede ser un ciudadano global el cual abraza sus propias raíces al mismo tiempo.
Aprendí a estar orgullosa de decir que soy latina, palabra que describe una rica cultura que una vez conocida, se convierte en el amor imposible de muchos.
