Ibrahim Thamir Mohamed Hashim '27 is a History and Biology major at St. Lawrence University whose academic interests include world history, with a particular focus on colonialism and its impacts on indigenous societies. His research examines the sociopolitical developments of Addu atoll during the British Era, focusing on how British military presence influenced its politics, economy and social dynamics. Through secondary source research as well as oral history interviews, he seeks to provide a nuanced perspective to the ever-growing historical scholarship that is the modern history of the Maldives. In the future, Thamir plans to continue research in this field, through his senior year research experience and graduate studies. He hopes to build a career in historical research focusing on the impacts of colonialism on communities around the world.
