I am a rising senior at St. Lawrence University studying sport leadership and business. My academic and career interests are centered around the Olympic movement, with a specification on event legacy and the long-term societal effects of major sporting events.
During the summer of 2026, I completed an indpendent fellowship project examining how Lake Placid converted the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games into a lasting institutional and community legacy. My research combined archival work, secondary scholarship, and 13 semi-structured interviews involving 18 participants from sport organizations, local government, tourism, business, and the surrounding community.
This project was particularly useful in several lights: I gained an immense understanding of institutional organizations surrounding Olympic legacy foundations and what their missions are; I built a vast network across multiple dimensions in Lake Placid; I learned many components about venue management and community integration; and finally, I saw the tradeoffs and negative aspects of sustaining Olympic legacy.
My long-term goal is to work in leadership in the Olympic movement and help develop major sporting events that are more sustainable, accessible, and beneficial to the communities that host them.
