Summer 2024
Description

I spent my summer as an intern at the Upper Valley Haven, a private nonprofit in the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire. The Haven aims to offer support to community members struggling with poverty and believes that everyone deserves to have their basic needs met. The Haven runs a community food market (food shelf) and two overnight shelters with the support of staff, social workers, volunteers, and the surrounding community.

During my internship, I was able to contribute to the organization's goal of reducing poverty by working at the community food market to provide food to members of the community who needed it. At the market, I was responsible for restocking shelves, walking through with customers, and lending a hand where needed. I also did some research on common chemicals in food, how other non-profits in the area with shelters provide food for their guests, as well as some informal surveying of the public to make improvements to the market.

Overall, I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to give back to my home community and explore what it's like to work at a nonprofit organizations.
