Description

My responsibilities as a part of the innovation team at Mirror Foundation consisted of co-teaching a child with a learning disability in English, teaching another child how to use different tools in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and teaching the staff professional English every two days of the week. In addition, I also helped translate PowerPoints related to a project about helping individuals with disability get access to jobs. Given that the organization I worked with believes in assisting project leaders whenever they need help, I was able to work on the art wall, in the donation center, and assist packing donations to be sent out to schools throughout the internship. These different responsibilities have led me to obtain interpersonal skills such as communication, flexibility, time management, and cultural awareness. Working for a local, established Thai organization where very few people spoke English made me aware of my positionality as a foreigner and encouraged me to learn about Thai culture, beliefs, and food from locals. All of the skills I have obtained have made me more prepared for the challenges I will face as an ESL abroad after I graduate SLU.

I was able to connect with members of a local NGO in Bangkok, Thailand, allowing me to participate in different social projects and learn about the foundations needed for starting a social project. It also led me to learn more about the different social issues present within Thailand.
