The Central Bank of Timor-Leste high-level meeting with the Australian Embassy in Timor-Leste

My 2025 summer internship experience was invaluable. I was initially drawn to a banking internship because of SLU Connect Rochester/Buffalo I participated in Fall 2024. I was inspired to pursue each and every bank in Timor-Leste, including the Central Bank of Timor-Leste (BCTL), by writing interest emails hoping I can have just one reply. I was in shock when BCTL reached out to me through my phone number stating that they have openings for students enrolled in abroad programs/universities to apply for an internship at BCTL. I immediately took action and soon applied for SLU's Summer Fellowship Program.
I held three positions at BCTL: Payment System Oversight Intern, Communications and Media Intern, and an Assistant in the Governor's Office. Some of the skills I developed throughout my 8-week internship program include: regulatory, policy and compliance analysis; critical thinking, strategic evaluation; research and reporting skills; multilingual professional communication; and cross-departmental collaboration. This internship fortified my passion for finance and banking and has shown me the difference in knowledge and theory acquisition versus real-life application.
I am currently in the finalization process for the NYC Study Abroad Program Spring 2026, and I hope to continue fortifying my professional development in finance and banking through this opportunity.
