Summer 2026
Description

This project came from my personal interest in migration and the question of what it really means to feel at home in a place that was not originally yours. I wanted to look at immigration not only as the experience of leaving one country and arriving in another, but as something that can deeply change how a person sees themselves, their identity, and the world around them.

During the summer, I worked on the pre-production and production of a short documentary following two immigrants from Trinidad and Poland who live and create in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Through two in-depth interviews, I invited them to share their experiences of leaving their home countries, adapting to a new environment, building new communities, and creating a new sense of home. Alongside their interviews, I filmed parts of their everyday lives and artistic processes to explore how these experiences are reflected in their creative work, as well as footage of Amsterdam and its vibrant art scene.

My project is rooted in the connection between displacement and art. How does a new city, culture, language, or environment change the way someone creates? Can the experience of being between different places become part of an artist’s voice? Through the stories of these two individuals, I wanted to explore these questions in a personal and human way.

Ultimately, the project became an exploration of belonging, identity, and how our experiences of moving through the globe become part of what we create and translate into the world we all share.
