Description

This project aimed to bring the love of hockey as well as teach the importance of physical activity to secluded and underprivileged communities in the Philippines. The project focused specifically on Tigman Village, Palawan and was organized by the Sticks Together Non-Profit. Kristina and the other volunteers spent most of the weekdays teaching hockey and running games for the school children of various ages, who were all extremely excited to learn; they also helped create environmental awareness campaigns and taught at the school. Volunteers were able to fundraise money and collect equipment to be used on the trip that was eventually donated to the school for the children to use after the completion of the project.

The results of this project were evident in the smiling faces of the kids playing ball hockey and their grinning parents who watched on each evening when they came to pick up their children from school. The on-site coordinators still send weekly updates and pictures of the children from Tigman Village who continue to play hockey with the equipment brought over and grow their love of the game and physical activity.
