Internship:
Semester:
Summer 2025
Description

I was responsible for assisting and coaching the University of Maine Football team's summer training sessions on the field and in the weight room. Responsibilities include coaching warmups, running agility and speed stations, explaining exercise blocks, and supplemental responsibilities surrounding athlete nutrition, athlete recovery, lift programming, and aiding in running recruiting camps for the Football Staff. I have had a passion for sports performance training since high school, when I realized that by using supplementary sport performance training, I could continue to succeed at sports where I may have lacked a skill or tactical advantage. Learning to be a bigger and faster athlete allowed me to quickly pick back up sports like Ice Hockey and Lacrosse, even though I lacked the traditional athletic requirements for those sports. Once I realized that I had this ability to help athletes develop the speed and strength needed to excel in their sports, I began to explore careers in strength and conditioning.

At St. Lawrence, I began interning for Coach Jon Lynch, who taught me a lot about converting knowledge about training into programs and lifts for athletes. Coach Lynch provided me with my base knowledge for coaching and recommended I intern over the summer at the University of Maine Football to gain a different perspective on training demands for different athletes at a different level of play.

This experience taught me a lot about the differences between athletes and how they train, the demands of training at a Division I level, how to command a room when addressing athletes, and how to work alongside sport coaches to coordinate a holistic training experience. My next steps are to take what I have learned from Maine and apply it to my coaching at St. Lawrence and continue to seek out high-level, unique coaching internship experiences.
