Fernanda is originally from Oaxaca, Mexico. Throughout her life she has developed a strong passion for social justice, feminism, public health and education. Therefore, she completed her undergraduate degree in Global Studies, specializing in Governance and Education at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, USA. One of her dreams is to be able to work towards creating a more gentle, just, and conscious reality for future generations. During her time as an undergraduate, Fernanda served as president of La Sociedad, a student organization that provides a safe space for Latino students, as well as other roles promoting multiculturalism and anti-racism.
She has also participated in social and student activism roles such as the creation of the "Museum of Sexual Empowerment" where students created art exhibits, infographics and interactive activities addressing issues such as menstrual and sexual health, as well as the right to pleasure.
In an effort to return and contribute to her community, she is currently researching political and epistemic resistance strategies of non-governmental initiatives to address the wave of violence against women in Oaxaca. She hopes that this research can be a denunciation of the state and an opportunity to reimagine alternative and community-based ways of opposing the hegemonic violence of the government.
