Semester:
Summer 2026
Description

This summer, I interned as an Assistant Language Teacher at Shimizudani High School in Osaka, Japan. Beforehand, I attended Kansai Gaidai University during the spring semester, and this internship was part of the Kansai Gaidai Internship Program (KGIP). My main duties were to assist the English teachers at Shimizudani with their day-to-day workload. This included assisting in classroom discussions, proctoring and grading oral exams, and speaking with the students outside of the classroom to help facilitate a more natural use of the English language.

My experience working at Shimizudani was unforgettable. It taught me how to bridge the gap between cultures in a foreign workplace and get beyond limitations like cultural and language barriers. The high schoolers and teachers I worked with must have been some of the friendliest people I’ve ever encountered. It taught me so much about learning to be confident and how powerful a regular conversation can be.
