Description

During my summer internship at Yale, I was able to gain hands on experience working with 18 sports, spending the majority of my time with football, men's lacrosse, men's & women's hockey, and swim. At lifts, I led movement prep stations, coached proper lifting technique, and built relationships with athletes. I learned how to utilize sports performance technology, including 1080 Motion, Hawkins Force Plates, Dashr Laser Timing Systems, and Perch (velocity based training/ VBT).

One highlight of my experience was running weekly 1080 resisted sprint sessions for groups of 4-7 football players, I got to make in-session adjustments to their resistance based on their personalized velocity targets. In addition to working with around 150 D1 athletes, I also had the opportunity to collect performance metrics at men's soccer, men's lacrosse, and football recruiting camps. I was able to run nearly 700 prospects through 10-yard sprint testing, learning to troubleshoot the lasers along the way.

In addition to my experience with athletes, I attended weekly lectures from the strength staff, we covered topics including program design, nutrition, injury modification, VBT profiling, lift cuing, and professional development. I ended my experience by designing and presenting a comprehensive hockey training plan to a group of strength coaches and interns. This plan included a needs analysis, 4 months of lifting plans (hypertrophy, power, and 2 in-season lifts), and a pre-season conditioning program.

Throughout this experience, I was able to build strong leadership skills, become confident in my coaching, and gain a strong understanding of exercise prescription. I am excited to apply all that I have learned from this internship experience.
