During my internship at Adirondack Rehabilitation Medicine, I had the privilege of working as a Nerve Conduction Technologist. In this field, I worked alongside physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and technicians in a medical office. I performed studies using NCV and Ultrasound technology to diagnose neuromuscular diseases and anomalies on patients. Besides testing patients, I gained valuable skills on patient care, learned important information on the body's anatomy and nerve pathways, and developed significant communication skills in a medical office with correct medical terminology.
The internship fellowship award allowed me to focus entirely on my NCV studies throughout the summer, which provided invaluable knowledge for the NCV certification exam in my near future. Becoming a certified NCV technician will greatly aid my resident application following medical school in the very competitive field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. Additionally, this award gave me the opportunity to visit Albany Medical College to attend in-depth lectures about neurology with other medical students and residents.
