Interning at Anjarwalla & Khanna provided me with experience in forensics, compliance, and risk management. This 8-week internship at A&K provided opportunities for applied learning. I gained an understanding of the internal structure of law firms, including the strategies and objectives that drive the success of large corporate firms. I attended trainings that developed vital skills, such as information and privacy security management, cyber security, and the digital admission of evidence, adapting to the new age of legal practice.
I had the opportunity to travel and conduct fieldwork for a safeguarding investigation, which involved travelling around Kenya and representing the firm in interviews, consultations, and data examinations. Through my safeguarding investigation, I felt uplifted by helping distressed individuals in need of our help, and I now feel well-equipped to embark on similar emotive investigations. In addition to the fieldwork, I had a chance to experience forensic lab work. I practised using imaging software like Cellebrite to compile and analyse data critical to our investigations.
I also developed my research skills by undertaking due diligence, where I searched for, organized, and analysed relevant information for interpretation by other team members. My analytical skills were tested as I sifted through numerous files, looking for pertinent information for an investigation. Although it was challenging to scrutinize each file thoroughly, I remained patient and managed my time well.
Overall, I felt challenged by the work, which confirmed my eagerness to join the legal field after completing my education.
