Description

Among the challenges facing today’s educators and students is a mental, emotional, and behavioral health crisis. In order to ensure that all children receive an education that fosters healthy development, emotional maturity, and overall success, profound adjustments must be made to the education system. Inspired by my passion for lifelong learning, I designed a rebranded life skills class called The Life Block dedicated to addressing the social-emotional needs of children. Drawing upon established social-emotional curricula, I developed one year of The Life Block for 3rd and 4th-grade students, using a Vermont elementary school as a prototype. This project is complete with learning targets, comprehensive curriculum descriptions, and a mock calendar. Ultimately, the creation of The Life Block contributes to the ongoing discourse on educational reform and highlights the pivotal role of holistic development in shaping the future of education.
