Internship:
Semester:
Summer 2025
Description

This summer I had the opportunity to intern at Junts en Acció, a regional non-profit association founded in 2009 in Sant Pere de Ribes by families of children with intellectual disabilities. The mission of Junts en Acció is to improve members’ quality of life through sports and leisure activities in inclusive, community-based settings.

During my internship, I focused on promoting physical fitness, creating spaces for friendship among participants and families, and raising awareness about diversity by making disability visible in the broader community. All physical activities planned for June and July were adapted to each person’s needs, ensuring that everyone could participate with the necessary support. In the first two weeks of August, we also designed leisure sessions for young people, encouraging independence and social participation.

My responsibilities included supporting daily administrative and operational tasks, assisting in planning, launching, and managing crowdfunding campaigns, and helping to organize weekly events and workshops. A major focus of my work was facilitating the transition of the directive board, which included digitizing organizational documents from 2009 to 2025. I also helped the board transition through governmental bureaucratic processes using my digital skills. In addition, I reached out to potential partner organizations, assisted with budgeting processes, and contributed to strengthening external collaborations.

Overall, the experience was both rewarding and eye-opening. I especially valued the moments of connection during activities, where every smile reminded me of the importance of inclusive spaces. Through this internship, I gained a deeper understanding of the non-profit sector in Catalonia, particularly regarding opportunities for children with intellectual disabilities. Thanks to this internship, next summer I will have the opportunity to implement a similar project in rural areas that lack leisure and sport opportunities for children with intellectual disabilities.
