I spent this summer working with Liz Page Associates where I was able to gain insight into the events industry and hands-on experience working with both non-profit organizations and corporate clients in the Boston area.
Throughout my internship, I attended weekly client meetings where we established goals and projects that I would then work on to progress each event forward. I organized and contracted vendors, researched venues, and assisted with managing budgets throughout the planning process. This allowed me to learn about what kind of preparation leads to event success and how that success looks different for each organization. The highlight of this internship was then putting all these skills together and executing our plans through my work on-site at events. I was able to start my internship experience by attending the annual community celebration in May for the New England Innocence Project. While I hadn’t had hands-on event experience up until that point, it was a great opportunity to learn about how events fit into the non-profit space. I also got the exciting opportunity to travel to Texas in August and assist at an event for Schneider Electric. This multi-day conference allowed me to explore and support on-site operations such as event set-up, registration, and vendor management in a corporate setting.
As someone who hopes to work in the non-profit sector, I found this experience at LPA both informative and impactful. I was working closely with development teams at different non-profit organizations on a daily basis. Through this diverse client base, I was able to learn a lot about what certain organizations prioritize and how events fit into development plans.
