Journalism Fellow - North Country Public Radio (NCPR)

      At NCPR, I've been fortunate to experience an independent but supportive setting. My supervisor, David Sommerstein, along with Catherine Wheeler, provided me the freedom to create, but ultimately, it was my responsibility to take advantage of that opportunity. After numerous early alarms and dedicating 20-40 minutes to listening to our morning radio program, Northern Light, I gradually pushed myself into a social atmosphere despite being an introvert. This experience sparked a newfound passion for reading that had long been suppressed after countless instances of writing news pieces from reading local articles. I had the opportunity to conduct my own interviews, organize my own schedule, learn how to create posts within a web browser, edit audio using Adobe Audition and write news copy to be featured on the radio the next day. 
 

        David and Juraj Kittler, a journalist and English professor expressed, "Simplify complex ideas into easily understandable concepts." Something that is comprehensible to everyone. At the station, you are not merely writing, but also creating engaging, valuable, and informative content for individuals with busy schedules. Radio stations are adapting to the continuously changing landscape. In the end, I came to realize how much I had undervalued my experiences because I thought that the independent environment as a freshman was useless. I found the confidence to connect with more people and to be resourceful while utilizing what I had perceived as unproductive days.
