Rory Sauereisen

      Rory Sauereisen is an undergraduate student at St. Lawrence University majoring in Biology and minoring in Statistics. Interested in genomics, pathogens, and the immune system, she enjoys applying quantitative and computational methods to investigate questions in healthcare and epidemiological trends. On campus Rory worked as a biology TA, leads within the club ski team, and is an avid member of both Omicron Delta Kappa and Tri-Beta biological honors societies.

Alessandro Lapentti Grunstein

I’m currently a junior at SLU majoring in Biochemistry. Originally from Ecuador, I’ve had the opportunity to live in four other countries, which has given me a diverse perspective. At SLU, I’ve been actively involved in several roles that reflect both my academic interests and my passions. I’ve served as Vice President of La Sociedad, worked as a first responder with SLU EMS, been a biology teaching assistant, and also worked as an admissions intern. These roles have helped me grow both personally and professionally. 

Ariana Chiarenzelli

My name is Ariana Chiarenzelli, and I am from a local town, Potsdam, New York.  I’m a student of the St. Lawrence University class of 2026, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Statistics.  I’ve used my liberal arts education to the fullest by taking a broad range of classes throughout my time here, giving me a diverse and well-rounded education. Studying psychology at SLU has provided me with valuable knowledge and tools to help me succeed in my future goals.

Kaitlyn Barton

Hi, I’m Kaitlyn Barton, Class of 2026. I’m a Biochemistry major and Statistics minor and interested in applying to medical school post-graduation. Because of my interest in medicine, I was drawn to organic chemistry research, especially related to synthetic and medicinal chemistry. I started working with Dr. Tartakoff, on my current project as a 2025 summer fellow. As a fellow, I was able to gain a lot of experience working in the organic chemistry lab, and plan to continue this project through the upcoming ‘25-’26 academic year.

Sara St. Clair

Sara St. Clair, ’26, is a neuroscience major with minors in chemistry and statistics at St. Lawrence University. She is interested in understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms behind neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Through her fellowship, Sara used the nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans as a model organism to study α-synuclein aggregation and evaluate the potential protective effects of mannitol.

Ben Lee

Ben Lee, '26, is a Biochemistry major with an interest in statistics. He is on the Varsity Men's Soccer Team and is a member of the Campus Kitchens Project and the Tri-Beta Honor Society. As a SLU Fellow, Ben participated in research focused on frog metamorphosis and how the immune system remodels as frogs mature. He hopes to use what he has learned to pursue a career in medicine or research in the future.

Alissa Lapentti Grünstein

Alissa Lapentti is an Economics and Political Science major with a Statistics minor, graduating in 2027. Her Ecuadorian and European background, along with six years living in Kenya and Tanzania, sparked her passion for sustainability, development, and international policy.

Emma Caffrey

Emma Caffrey, ’26, is from Duxbury, Massachusetts, and is double majoring in Economics and Psychology with a minor in Statistics. She is interested in behavioral decision-making research that bridges economic theory and experimental psychology. As a student researcher in Dr. Adam E. Fox's lab, Emma is conducting a multi-phase experiment to investigate the effects of experience and maturation on impulsive choice-making, specifically in a delay-discounting task with rats.

Maura Richards

Maura Richards ’26 is a Conservation Biology major and a Statistics minor, driven by a lifelong passion for bird conservation. As a local from Colton, New York, she has researched many species native to Upstate NY, both in and out of the field. On campus, she is part of the Greenhouse, a themed residence focused on sustainability and local food systems. She is also grateful to have had the chance to study abroad through St. Lawrence in both the United Kingdom (Fall ’22) and New Zealand (Fall ’24), which has broadened her view on global approaches to conservation.

Maggie Layman

My name is Maggie Layman, and I am from West Chester, Pennsylvania. I am in the Class of 2026 at St. Lawrence University, where I am majoring in Conservation Biology, minoring in Statistics and Outdoor Studies, and play for the Varsity Volleyball Team. I am passionate about conservation and ecology and plan to pursue a research-based career dedicated to studying and preserving systems involving wildlife, aquatic habitats, or forests. When I’m not studying the natural world, you will likely still find me outside walking, hiking, biking, and more.

Andrew Bazuro

Andrew Bazuro is a member of the class of 2025 and is at St. Lawrence University pursuing a degree in Biomedical Science with a minor in Chemistry and Statistics. He has worked in several labs in the past and has most recently interned at Yale where he was able to work with an Associate Professor of Medicine. After graduation he hopes to attend graduate school and continue learning so that he can perform statistical analysis and perform biological research in the lab.

Caroline (Wanjiru) Mwathi

My name is Wanjiru Mwathi. I am from a small town in Kenya called Nakuru. I speak Swahili, my first language, Kikuyu, and English.

I love cooking. My favorite food is matoke and nyama choma. Back home, I always longed to prepare dishes with my family because it always brought us together.

This past summer, Conor took part as a Financial Services Intern with Baystate Financial, working with a team of senior advisors to provide retirement planning, education funding strategies, investment management, and insurance products. He was able to learn a plethora of information about the finance industry while "test-driving" a full-time career of a financial planner In such a short time period. A notable amount of time was spent on network outreach via email, phone, etc with the primary goal being to identify and bring In potential clientele that could benefit from Baystate's services. Naturally, as Conor had more conversations with clients and senior advisors, he demonstrated the ability to sound as confident, professional, and effective as a full-time financial advisor or consultant would be. For the 3 months he was with Baystate, Conor experienced the complete process of client addition, from approaches to specific tax-benefit and portfolio recommendations. Overall, Conor was given an excellent opportunity to explore an In-depth view of the finance industry and will have the opportunity to take this knowledge with him into a number of potential fields of interest. 

I am currently a senior at St. Lawrence University from Severna Park, Maryland. Throughout my years here, I've been lucky enough to be a part of the varsity lacrosse program and crown royalties investment club. Pursuing a double major In Business In the Liberal Arts and Economics, coupled with a statistics minor, has allowed me to explore my interests in finance while building upon my analytical and quantitative skills.

Sajida Jan

I am Sajida from Gilgit, Pakistan. I am a member of the Class of 2024, majoring in Behavioral Neuroscience with a minor in Statistics at St. Lawrence University. I am thrilled that I will be joining Dr. Jaime Ross's Lab at University of Rhode Island for PhD in neuroscience. Previously, I did my International Baccalaureate from UWC Costa Rica. At SLU I am involved at various leadership roles like community assistant, student worker at the Launder's Science Library, Intern at the Language Resource Center and Student Researcher.

My name is Riku Tatsuzuki, from Tokyo, Japan. I study Economics as my major and minoring in Statistics here at St. Lawrence. My native language is Japanese and also fluent in English. I love watching movies, going skiing, playing soccer and lacrosse. I have a twin brother who lives in Vancouver. 

Alexandra Hill

Alexandra Hill '23, born and raised in Los Angeles, California, is a triple major in English, French, and mathematics, with a minor in statistics. Her passion for mental health is a keystone for much of her academia; she presented her research on mental health accessibility in writing centers at a national conference in 2021, and her three senior honors projects each respectively analyze mental health in literature in unique ways.
