Internship:
Semester:
Summer 2025
Description

In the Summer of 2025, I had the privilege of interning with SealRescue Ireland, where I assisted in the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of stranded seals along the Irish coast.  My responsibilities included daily animal husbandry, such as feeding, medical monitoring and habitat maintenance, as well as developing enrichment activities to encourage natural behaviors. I also contributed to the center's education initiatives by leading tours and engaging with visitors on marine conservation issues. This experience strengthened my skills in wildlife care, public communications, and conservation outreach.

Living and working abroad in Ireland was an especially meaningful aspect of this experience. Immersing myself in a new cultural and environmental setting gave me a global perspective on conservation and allowed me to see firsthand how international organizations address challenges in marine wildlife rehabilitation. The experience reinforced my commitment to a career in marine conservation and strengthened my interest in pursuing future opportunities in animal rehabilitation and public engagement.

This internship also clarified my next steps as I prepare for graduation, including seeking additional internships and professional experiences in marine mammal care.  The financial support I received made this opportunity possible by covering travel and living expenses, and I am deeply grateful for that investment in my academic and professional growth.
