While working at NCPR, I developed various technical and soft skills required for radio journalism. I learned how to use audio editing and recording software so that I may write, co-write, voice, edit, and produce my own stories to be aired on the radio. I traveled to various places across the North Country to report on local people, organizations, businesses and events. Several of the topics I reported on include profiles on local businesses, the return of agricultural education to North Country schools, Indigenous tradition and culture, and mental health awareness and resources for farmers in New York. I conducted interviews, collaborated with co-workers, and created digital content for both the NCPR website and social media platforms. I improved my written and verbal communications skills, and had the opportunity to learn more about the staples of independent fact-based journalism.
