Semester:
Summer 2025
Description

My internship with the Glens Falls Dragons taught me a lot of different aspects of the sports industry. At first, I thought I would only help with the social media aspect of the Dragons, but  I ended up helping with the merchandise and game operations side of a team as well. While this is not originally what I thought my summer would have consisted of, I am intimately very grateful for the experience and all the different (and new) skills I have learned.

As a Marketing Intern for the Dragons, my main responsibility was making graphics. I made social media graphics that were posted on our social media sites advertising upcoming games and promotional games. For example, one of the games was partnered with the Adirondack Thunder. I made a promotional graphic explaining the date and time of the game. I collaborated with other interns getting their feedback and using pictures they took from the game. I also was in charge of updating the Instagram story during home games with the score of the game. I made these graphics and then periodically posted them with updates as well as other important information about the game (home runs, good defensive innings/good plays, comeback innings, etc.) Examples of my work can be seen below.

Something unexpected about the internship, however, was my in game duties (besides posting on the Instagram story). Where I was most helpful was in the merchandise stand helping sell  products. There were a bunch of photographers and content creators, so my manager stationed me helping with merch. While this was something new to me, I am grateful for the experience. Something I am most proud of with my merchandise duties was selling over 30 jerseys! This was the first year the Dragons were selling game worn jerseys, and the money made from them would go to a fund for a new costume for the mascot. Because this was a new product the team was selling, they were unsure of how well the jerseys would actually sell. I am very proud of how many we ended up selling and contributing a big chunk to the costume fund. I organized all the jerseys into size order; and then while in size order, also numerical order. This helped me and my fellow interns grab a jersey fast while not keeping out customers waiting.

As I wrap up my summer, I would like to give thanks to the entire staff at the Dragons. From the owner Ben Bernard, my manager Victoria Ferguson, and the many other interns I worked with this summer, I would like to extend my appreciation. Working with new people in a new place for the summer was very daunting at first. However, everyone at East Field made Glens Falls feel like home for the summer. Thank you to the Center for Career and Excellence at SLU for all your guidance and resources. Lastly, a huge thank you to everyone from the Stewart’s Shops and Dake Family Internship fund. Without your generous support I would not have been able to do this experience. The support that you have given me has not gone unnoticed, and I am forever grateful for SLU alums and supporters.
