Semester:
Summer 2025
Description

This summer, I had the opportunity to intern with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in Watertown, New York. Throughout the summer, I gained firsthand exposure to the legal system and the day-to-day work of prosecutors. I assisted with case preparation, observed courtroom proceedings, and helped organize legal documents, all of which strengthened my attention to detail and ability to manage responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Working alongside attorneys and staff gave me valuable insight into the challenges and responsibilities of public service, while also sharpening my communication and critical thinking skills. The experience allowed me to see how the law is applied in practice and deepened my interest in pursuing a legal career, particularly in prosecution. Before this opportunity, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in law, but was unsure which area I wanted to pursue. Throughout the summer, I developed a passion for working in public service, specifically prosecution. This experience was invaluable as it allowed me to develop a further understanding of what exactly I want my future to look like. I also was able to make genuine connections over the course of the summer, many of which I still keep in contact with. These invaluable relationships will undoubtedly prove crucial in my future career journey.

I was drawn to this internship because of my passion for government and law, and the opportunity to work directly within the justice system in a jurisdiction I am extremely connected too. This familiarity with area I was working in provided extra motivation for me to work as hard as possible everyday to make in impact.  This experience has motivated me to continue seeking opportunities that will prepare me for a career in law and public service.
