Description

For my project I had wanted to shed light upon colonial history within Latin America and its ongoing effects through my own personal experiences combined with historical facts/ other hispanic authors who speak about aspects of being Hispanic. To complete my goal I had taken time to compile an abundance of knowledge through reading about the experiences of writers who discussed this colonial aspect within their history. Many of my inspirations and research came from Hispanic writers such as Junot Diaz and Gloria Anzuldua but for the sake of understanding the colonial mindset/ its effects overall I had also read from other non hispanic sources such as Franz Fanon. Through this accumulation of knowledge as well as my own life experiences  I have chosen which topics I would want to talk about/which I had the most experience with. I decided to break it up into 3 sections to highlight certain aspects of colonialism which are the most prevalent to me and other Latinos. I have  also decided to divide it up into these sections to make them easier to understand and digest as the topic itself is so vast and complicated I could write a book about how colonialism affects different people at different times and at different levels depending on who they were or when or where they were born. With all of these pieces combined I have come to the conclusion that throughout the history of Latin American , colonialism has loomed as a shadow over our people and culture affecting many in negative ways for generations as the pain of the past is neither lost nor forgotten.
