I had the pleasure of working as the marketing/pantry outreach intern at the Church and Community Program from June to August 2026. Working alongside community members firsthand has taught me so much about compassion, persistence, and the value of a close-knit community. I will carry the experiences, skills, and relationships I nurtured during my time at CCP with me long after my time at SLU has ended.
I went into my internship by making a list of priorities, objectives, and tasks to complete. I tackled the list by first creating an Instagram account and adding promotional materials I made with Canva to the page throughout the summer. I designed posters, flyers, and a volunteer recognition program. The volunteer recognition program aimed to introduce our members to the community and interested future volunteers. I introduced my manager to Canva, created a quick reference guide, and taught her to use the program for her convenience after the end of our time together. I shot, edited, and published educational videos on Instagram exploring the tasks our volunteers carry out and showing the public what goes on behind the scenes of the pantry. The materials produced promoted the food pantry, additional food resources, the thrift shop, and the back-to-school program.
My internship taught me invaluable experiences in connection, technology, and the value of the human heart in volunteer service. I grew in both professional skills and character. I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone at CCP, the generous donors who make the PIC program possible, and to the SLU Careers team for being such a strong source of support.
