Semester:
Summer 2025
Description

In the summer of 2025, I spent 9 weeks interning with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) in Washington, D.C. I worked on the Commerce, Insurance, and Economic Development task force, where I assisted staff with research, writing, and policy development.

This internship gave me valuable insight into how state-level policy ideas are developed and communicated. My responsibilities included researching economic policy issues, drafting policy summaries, writing a blog post on central banking and digital currencies, and assisting in the preparation of materials for ALEC’s Annual Meeting. I also attended the conference in Indianapolis, where I observed how lawmakers, staff, and stakeholders interact on key issues.

During this time, I connected with policy professionals, staffers, and other interns working in D.C. I acquired technical skills in research and policy analysis, as well as professional skills in writing and communication. This internship allowed me to achieve my goals of experiencing professional office culture, exploring career options in the policy field, and expanding my networking abilities. In addition, I was able to explore Washington, D.C., and spend time in the city where I hope to begin a career at the intersection of finance and public policy.
