During my internship at Clayton Dental Office, I had the opportunity to both observe and assist the doctor in live patient treatments and restorations. These experiences allowed me to see how the doctor interacted with and tended to patients needs as procedures were completed. Along with experience in an active operatory, I also gained invaluable skills in restorations such as fillings, crowns, bridges, and root canals via practice on 3D printed models. In addition to learning the ins and outs of dental procedures, I also had the opportunity to begin literature review relevant to future dental education through multiple assigned research presentations which were reviewed and critiqued by the doctor. Beyond relevant clinical work, I gained a deeper appreciation and passion for the oral health field by getting a first-hand view of the immediate impact comfortable and professional dental care had on patients.
