Ralfs

My name is Ralfs, and I am a Latvian. I grew up between a small town and the countryside before moving to the Japanese Alps to attend UWC ISAK. Now, I intend to double-major in Data Science and Political Science, and see where life takes me next.

I strongly value the self-determination of individuals and the freedom of the heart and mind, which is why I have butted heads with the administrations of my previous schools through the student governments, and I am not afraid to advocate for the causes I believe in. I have an interest in political theory and philosophy, which I am always eager to discuss.

From ages 8 to 10, I went to a local music school to learn the piano, but I could not learn to read sheet music in three years and quit. When I was 16, I suddenly gained an interest in piano again and taught myself how to tune and fix the late 1800’s piano we had with the help of YouTube and some tools I found in my dad’s garage. Then, I practiced some pieces I liked for hundreds of times from videos of others playing them, and built the muscle memory to play them. However, while I was in Japan, my mom burned the piano down because ‘’it was too old for her tastes’’, so I am a little out of practice now. Outside of the piano, I have an interesting music taste- I like post-punk and indie rock, and Latvian music from the 70’s and 80’s, and some random songs from genres I generally do not like.

I also read a lot and write poems. I love baking cheesecakes. I really like card games and cats. My mother tongue is Latvian, but I can also hold a conversation in Russian. I almost always have a TV show to binge-watch. I used to practice longbow archery and gun sharpshooting. There are so many random things I could list here, but it is so much better to discuss them over a cup of herbal tea.

Mani sauc Ralfs, un es esmu latvietis. Es uzaugu starp mazu pilsētu un laukiem, pirms pārcēlos uz Japānas Alpiem, lai mācītos UWC ISAK. Tagad es plānoju iegūt dubultspecialitāti datu un politikas zinātnēs un redzēt, kur dzīve mani aizvedīs tālāk.

Es ļoti novērtēju cilvēku pašnoteikšanos un sirds un prāta brīvību, tāpēc esmu strīdējies ar savu iepriekšējo skolu administrācijām caur skolēnu pašpārvaldēm un nebaidos aizstāvēt lietas, kurām ticu. Mani interesē politiskā teorija un filozofija, par ko vienmēr esmu gatavs ielaisties diskusijā.

No 8 līdz 10 gadu vecumam es apmeklēju vietējo mūzikas skolu, lai mācītos klavieres, bet trīs gadu laikā nespēju iemācīties notis un visu pārtraucu. Kad man bija 16, man pēkšņi atkal parādījās interese un pašmācības ceļā iemācījos noskaņot un restaurēt mūsu 1800. gadu beigu klavieres ar YouTube un dažiem instrumentiem, kurus atradu tēva garāžā. Tad es simtiem reižu spēlēju gabalus, kas man patika, skatoties, kā spēlē citi, un izveidoju muskuļu atmiņu, lai tos iemācītos. Tomēr, kad es biju Japānā, mana mamma sadedzināja klavieres, jo "tās bija pārāk vecas," tāpēc es tagad esmu nedaudz ierūsējis. Ārpus klavierēm man ir interesanta mūzikas gaume - man patīk post-panks un indie roks, un latviešu mūzika no 70. un 80. gadiem, kā arī nejaušas dziesmas no žanriem, kas man parasti nepatīk.

Es arī daudz lasu un rakstu dzeju. Man patīk cept siera kūkas. Es ļoti mīlu kāršu spēles un kaķus. Mana dzimtā valoda ir latviešu, bet es arī varu sarunāties krieviski. Man gandrīz vienmēr ir kāds TV šovs, kuru es skatos bez apstājas. Agrāk es nodarbojos ar lokšaušanu un šaušanu ar ieročiem. Ir tik daudz nejaušu lietu, ko es varētu šeit uzskaitīt, bet daudz labāk tās apspriest pār zāļu tējas tasi.
