Ángeles Zúñiga is a candid human rights advocate from Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela. She graduated from St. Lawrence University in 2022, with a major in Global Studies and a double minor in Film and Education. She is also a UWC ISAK Japan alumna, Semester at Sea alumna, and Davis Scholar. During her entire senior year, Ángeles enrolled in the Career Services Internship Course, and was a Detained Units Intern for the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.
She currently serves as a Legal & Policy Intern at the Human Rights Foundation. Ángeles has a transdisciplinary approach to life and is constantly exploring the intersection between migration, human rights, development and climate justice. Ángeles is particularly interested in the Venezuelan exodus and how this group is constructed as a highly politicized, demonized and misunderstood entity. As a Global Studies major, she wrote her senior thesis SYE on the topic, which is titled "The Venezuelan Exodus: Navigating Migration from Venezuela to Colombia Through the Perspectives of Discourse, Gender and Governmentality."
