Description

Empowering Communities for Change

Welcome to my internship overview! During my time at Mano Vuelta, I had the privilege to work on a range of impactful projects that aimed to empower indigenous and Afro-Mexican youth in Oaxacan communities. Through research, analysis, and hands-on facilitation, I contributed to initiatives that promote safe, dignified, and self-managed abortions while also addressing broader issues such as gender violence and resource management. Here's a glimpse of the valuable experiences and accomplishments from my internship:

1) Workshop Facilitation for Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Youth:

  • One of the key highlights of my internship was the opportunity to plan and facilitate three workshops as part of Mano Vuelta's pioneering program. These workshops were designed to empower indigenous and Afro-Mexican youth by providing them with essential knowledge and support for safe, dignified, and self-managed abortions. Through meticulous research and effective planning, I ensured that these workshops were tailored to the unique needs and cultural contexts of the Oaxacan communities we served. The workshops not only provided practical guidance but also fostered a sense of agency and dignity among the participants.

2) Gender Violence and Collective Resistance:

  • As part of my internship, I engaged in in-depth research and analysis, which culminated in my undergraduate thesis on "Feminicides in Mexico and Acts of Collective Resistance." Within this framework, I formulated recommendations for Mano Vuelta to strengthen the social fabric of Oaxacan communities and resist gender violence, including the deeply concerning issue of feminicide. My research helped shed light on the root causes of gender violence and offered actionable strategies to address these issues effectively. This work underscored the organization's commitment to creating safer and more equitable environments.

3) Resource Management and Inventory:

  • Efficient resource management is essential for any organization's success. During my internship, I took on the task of creating an Excel spreadsheet inventory that cataloged more than 300 educational and stationery materials used in Mano Vuelta's activities. This inventory system was implemented to streamline resource allocation and enhance expense management. By meticulously organizing and tracking these resources, I contributed to optimizing the allocation of funds and materials, ultimately ensuring that the organization's activities ran smoothly and efficiently.

In summary, my internship at Mano Vuelta was a transformative experience that allowed me to engage in meaningful work with a strong focus on community empowerment, gender equality, and resource optimization. I look forward to bringing the skills and insights gained during my internship to new challenges and opportunities, continuing to make a positive impact on the world around me.
