This summer I interned as a college financial representative with Northwestern Mutual, working with a team of individuals focused on bringing financial independence to clients across the country through the use of a variety of insurance products, including but not limited to term and whole life insurance, investment portfolios, disability income strategies, and long term care plans. I was able to learn a great deal by working closely with my team and fulfilling the same responsibilities as any senior financial advisor would have. This largely consisted of network outreach through a variety of mediums hoping to find potential clients that could be benefitted by the services Northwestern Mutual has to offer, with the goal of setting meetings to further discuss their needs and our products. Due to the nature of this work I was able to greatly improve upon my skills in keeping up with a busy calendar and became much more confident when working outside my comfort zone. I was able to build a clientele within only a ten week period and enhance my communication abilities through constant outreach and discussion with a wide variety of professionals, alumni, friends, and family. With my knowledge of the financial services industry being relatively small going into this experience, I was given great opportunity to learn about this field in depth and will be able to use this knowledge to help myself and others in the future. Regardless of what field I choose to begin my professional career in, I am confident that I will be able to employ much of what I learned during this experience with Northwestern Mutual to help further my career and build a strong network of connections and relationships.
