Through this internship I was able to experience the exciting nature of working within professional sports. My main responsibility was to sell, exchange, refund, and manage tickets, including individual tickets, ticket packages, and concert tickets. Sales occurred in multiple facets, including in person and over the phone. Along with managing tickets, I also dealt with all different types of customer service interactions, such as accessibility needs, complaints, and others. In the ticket offices I also gained experience working within a professional atmosphere where everyone helps everyone. Communicating between personnel to keep track of tickets and efficiently distribute them was essential to the operations of the department.
My second responsibility was within the merchandise department. In this role I worked mainly with inventories and sales reports, making sure to correctly log which pieces of merchandise was sold, what discounts were applied, and how much profit was made in each transaction. These numbers were then used to make decisions regarding how much to order, what to order, and what to highlight within the stores. I also made strategic decisions about store layouts and marketing implementations within the stadium to highlight discounts, special events, and promotions occurring day-to-day.
Overall this internship taught me a lot about communication, organization, and problem solving. Being mostly in a customer facing atmosphere, I learned a lot about customer patterns and habits, along with how to best provide a fitting environment for all customer needs. The opportunity to see the behind the scenes of professional sports was incredible and excited me as I look to expand upon my experience in a professional sports atmosphere.
