At UW Madison I was working as a Strength and Conditioning Intern for the UW Badgers football team. Daily responsibilities included setup and breakdown of the field and weight room, data collection using Catapult GPS Systems and other sports science technology, intern academic development, and coaching and assisting with all lift groups across the day. Interns would rotate through the strength staff observing a different one of the four assistant sports performance coaches each week. The final four weeks of the internship, I was selected by Head Sports Performance Coach Brady Collins to personally assist him with his lift groups.
This is now my second Division I internship with an NCAA Football Team. This experience has taught me the demands of the position at the highest level and what level of intensity, attention to detail, coach-athlete relationship, and training knowledge will be required to succeed in the Big 10 or other Power 4 conferences. I hope to take what I have learned and apply it to my work as an S&C Coach at St. Lawrence and into the job application process upon my graduation at the end of this coming school year.
