Alexander Reyes

My name is Alexander Reyes, I was born and raised in a small city called San Miguel in El Salvador. I am currently living in the Bronx, New York. I am also a college student at St. Lawrence University. I am blessed to speak two languages; Spanish my first language and English as a second.

In 2014, I decided to change my life for the better by moving from EL Salvador to the Bronx, New York. Since that, I have discovered so much about myself which I never thought I was capable to do. I am a resilient, energetic young boy that everything I do it is in the name of Jesus. So far, in my life, I have been very blessed, by Jesus because I came with a very poor Education to the United States and now, I am an American college and for me it is a big achievement.

I am very passionate about Racial, Social, Environmental, and Educational, Justices. I consider myself an activist because as Congressmen and Civil Rights activist John Lewis says, “When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just you have a moral obligation to do something” and I do feel that moral obligation.

I love my country El Salvador for its food, culture, and traditions. But I love the United States as well. The United States Government and Democracy inspired me to get involved in this area and be part of the change that many are seeking in this land. I am going to major in government at St. Lawrence University and after I graduated, I want to become a defender of the people.

Mi nombre es Alexander Reyes. Nací en una pequeña ciudad llamada San Miguel, en El Salavador. Actualmente estoy viviendo en el Bronx, New York. Soy estudiante Universitario en St. Lawrence University. Y estoy bendecido de hablar dos idiomas: español como primer lengua, e inglés como segunda lengua.

En el 2014 decidí cambiar mi vida; me mudé de El Salvador para el Bronx, New York. Desde allí he descubierto mucho de mi que nunca pense que fuera capaz de hacer. Soy un chico resiliente, energético, y todo lo que hago es en el nombre de Jesús. En mi vida he sido muy bendecido por Dios. El solo hecho de venir de abajo y estar en una Universidad Estadounidense significa mucho para mi. 

Soy muy apasionado por la justica racial, social, educacional, ambiental y de salud. Me considero un activista porque, como el congresista y activista de derechos civiles John Lewis dice: "Cuando ves algo que no está bien, tienes la sólida obligación de hacer algo".

Amo a mi país, El Salvador, por su comida, cultura y tradiciones. De cualquier manera, también amo a los Estados Unidos. El sistema gubernamental y la democracia de los Estados Unidos me inspiraron a involucrarme en esta area, para poder ser parte del cambio que muchos están buscando en esta tierra. Voy a especializarme en la carrera de Gobierno en la Universidad de St. Lawrence para, después de graduarme, convertirme en el defensor del pueblo.
