Summer 2023
Description

This past summer Cordelia Keberle ‘24 interned at the Yale School of Medicine on a collaborative project between the Pediatric Genomic Discovery Program and the Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology at the Yale School of Medicine. The Khokha Laboratory researches genes developmental mechanisms implicated in congenital malformations. She used the Bruker Opterra II Multipoint Scanning Confocal Microscope to image calcium waves in xenopus embryos during gastrulation stages. She optimized the protocol for mounting to allow for the addition of new media while imaging. Furthermore, she utilized the new mounting technique to conduct experiments in an attempt to manipulate the calcium waves. She qualitatively analyzed the calcium waves and cluster cell activation. Cordelia has discovered a passion or research, which she plans to pursue in her future career of medicine.
