Semester:
Summer 2024
Description

In this internship, I aided public defenders by writing memos, case notes, and motions. Given the depth of each case, I had to thoroughly research and report each law, regulation, and act under the case's purview. After reviewing each client's background and alleged crimes, I helped the public defender decipher what a sentence may be, and how best to fight it. I also worked with staff attorneys to gain experience in family law and juvenile cases.

Before this internship began, I wanted to improve my critical thinking skills, as well as my writing and research skills. I believe I have drastically improved in each area due to the constant reviews of my work from my supervisor. I grew professionally and personally by being continually challenged to perform at my best and work to aid those in the office.

Though this internship showed me a more violent side of the law, I found that I was able to perform under pressure and complete my assigned tasks without personal affliction. I would now like to be a criminal lawyer in the future.
