This past summer I had the honor of working for a small publishing press in a rural town in Vermont. Green Writers Press in Brattleboro, VT is a Vermont-based, woman owned, global publisher that focuses on environmentalism and identity inclusion.
As a remote intern my main role was to read manuscripts that had been submitted to the press and share my thoughts on not just their quality but their fit within the press. I also had the wonderful opportunity to work directly with an author and with an artist to integrate illustrations into an upcoming book. I assisted on placement of the images, making sure the artist had all necessary information to complete the author's vision, and ensuring my supervisor was always in the loop.
Through Zoom meetings and lessons, I learned a lot about book design and the ins and outs of publishing from the creative and business lenses. This internship was invaluable to me and my growth in the English field, and I am so grateful for the chance to have learned and worked in publishing this summer.
