During my internship at IOR Japan, I worked with the Finance and Trade Compliance teams to support both financial reporting and international operations. My primary responsibility was collaborating with colleagues to run day-to-day operations in a small, fast-paced environment, which required taking full ownership of tasks and adapting quickly to new challenges. I also assisted the financial reporting team in preparing and reviewing internal documents, strengthening both my attention to detail and analytical skills.
Through these daily operations, I gained direct exposure to cross-border processes by helping manage Importer/Exporter of Record (IOR/EOR) activities. This involved preparing and reviewing customs documentation, coordinating with regulatory authorities, and ensuring compliance with Japanese government regulations. In addition, while working with the Finance department, I assisted in capital investment analysis and contributed to tax strategy evaluations across different assets. These efforts resulted in a 30% cost reduction, allowing me to make a meaningful impact within the firm.
As my summer internship comes to a close, I want to express my sincere appreciation to everyone at IOR Japan for making this such a valuable experience. I am especially thankful to my mentor and fellow interns in both the Finance and Compliance divisions, who provided guidance and encouragement, making this an invaluable opportunity to take on real responsibilities. Beginning work in Tokyo and stepping into a new professional environment was certainly a challenge at first, but the support and kindness of the team allowed me to learn quickly and feel confident in my role.
