I’m Fleur Espitalier Noel, a freshman from Mauritius and Italy. I was born in Mauritius a small island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I grew up listening to the sound of waves crashing on the beach in front of my house. When I learned how to walk, every morning my mother would find me playing in the algae’s instead of my bed, for an Italian woman it was scary. By the age of three, I would water ski between the waves formed by the motors of boats but had no idea how to ride a bike. Now, at 19 years old, and a similar but more grown-up comparison can be made, I have my boat license and drive at an alarming speed between passes, but I have no idea how to drive a car. Playing in the ocean is part of who I am.
