Summer 2026
Description

During the summer of 2026, Evie worked with GardenShare as their Local Food Ambassador. This internship developed her research and customer service skills, and taught her a myriad of other skills like interviewing and event photography.

Her role with GardenShare had two components. The first was in the office, doing research on Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) sites in St. Lawrence County. She wrote surveys to send to CSA farmers and members, and used the data to create infographics and write a report detailing how GardenShare can better support CSA farmers and members. The second component took place at the Canton and Potsdam farmers markets, on Fridays and Saturdays, respectively. There, she ran transactions, allowing market-goers to use their SNAP dollars and debit/credit cards at vendor’s stands. She also educated people on how SNAP recipients can double their money to use on produce, and on food assistance programs available to them.

Evie’s time with GardenShare was transformative, leaving her with a passion for local food systems and food justice. She is incredibly grateful to Carlene Doane, GardenShare Executive Director, Sarah Coburn and Anne Warren, SLU PIC Directors, and St. Lawrence University for this opportunity.
