Throughout her eight-week internship at Defazio Law in Jackson, WY, Ila solidified her interest in the legal field. During her time as a legal intern, Ila was involved in all aspects of criminal defense and civil litigation cases.
Ila read through hundreds of criminal cases, which allowed her to recognize patterns in legal decision-making and how attorneys best represent their clients. She was able to attend circuit court and gain invaluable experience in the inner workings of the Wyoming legal system. Her knowledge flourished regarding Wyoming statutes and the work produced by both the prosecutor and defense attorneys.
She was able to become involved in a construction civil litigation case, where she gained knowledge of subpoenas, affidavits, and the necessary legal representation when multiple parties are involved. She was able to discuss this case with the attorney, and learned about the chance of settlement and the possibility of countersuits involved in these high-stakes cases.
Approaching this internship, Ila was unsure if she wanted to become a lawyer in the future, and she is happy to report that this invaluable experience solidified her interest.
While Ila's knowledge grew profoundly during her time at the office, she was also able to establish and grow relationships with some of the most knowledgeable individuals. Her mentorship was unmatched, and she is happy to keep in contact with DeFazio Law as she pursues a path in the legal field.
